Here - I challenged myself to animating an emotion in less than 200 frames. and with a tight deadline of only working on it for a total of 4/5 hours. Originally I filmed myself and used that to time and get a better idea of what the emotion looked like in this shot.
Parts I enjoyed was definitely animating the IK/FK switching and hands. I thought it brought a nice flow to the movement. I also enjoyed animating the face. I did this by posing 4 different faces and applying them where needed. Like using the plug-in Studio Library.
I struggled mainly in getting the body all rotating together and appropriately. I always consider that the entirety of the torso gets affected when one bit moves - I'm very considerate of this. I also struggled to think of what the feet would do. My reference of myself suggested they don't move much. I also struggled to find a film/tv shot conveying this emotion, however that of which I did, didn't have a lot of movement in them.
I'd of liked to hold some poses a little longer such as the start to show that maybe he's listening to some sort of bad news before he reacts. But I am pleased with how this turned out in the short amount of time I gave myself. 😊
